Bíó Paradís er þarna í hópi með víðfrægum bíóum eins og Electric í London, Eden þeirra Lumiere bræðra (fæðingarstaður kvikmyndanna), TCL Chinese Theatre á Hollywood Boulevard, Egyptian Theatre í LA, Nitehawk í Brooklyn og ýmsum öðrum.

Tucked into a modern building on a Reykavik side street, the Bío Paradis has a discreet exterior, but there are plenty of features that make it one of the world’s special cinemas. It may be only 15 years old, but the Bío Paradis has already survived near-closure in 2010* and is still going strong as the only cinema in the city center and one of the country’s only places to see arthouse and foreign films. The foyer is completely covered with original interpretations of movie posters made by Icelandic artists — everything from “The Shining” to “Enter the Dragon” and “The Omen” gets its own artistically-styled artwork. The funky lobby, with a full bar, is also available for rental — on a recent Sunday afternoon, a children’s birthday party was underway with balloons and cake. And the non-profit theater is owned by the cinema guilds and professional societies of Iceland, and also acts as a film distributor.
